My name is Sean Clancy and I am a 57 year old 22q Pop Pop. I consider myself very active and have competed in charity 5k’s, 10k mud runs, 75 mile bike rides and even a few Polar Bear plunges.  Two years ago, I had the opportunity to run 200ish miles from Chattanooga to Nashville with a bunch of like-minded (read: crazy) 22q family members in my first Ragnar. It was an eye opening challenge, but an experience I will never forget and I can’t wait to do it again.

I ran for Ellyot, my almost 7 year old 22qtie grandson.  Ellyot is truly an inspiration for me as he attacks life with a huge smile despite his many challenges.  Ellyot’s heart, while not functioning like yours or mine, is filled with love and kindness. Whether in the classroom, on the basketball court or a soccer field, he always gives 100%, how can I not?

I’ll be running this year from Chicago to Madison, another 200ish miles.  I haven’t run in an organized race since Nashville, but am training 5-6 days a week right now. As a grandparent, and the oldest member of our team, I hope to inspire others to reach for new, higher goals. I want Ellyot and my 3 other grandchildren to know that with hard work, anything is possible.

Whenever Ellyot sees me in my #werun22q t-shirt he always says “you ran for me Pop Pop?”  Yes I did big guy and I’ll do it again in a heartbeat!
